The Game Plan

  1. If using frozen rice cakes, soak in warm water for 10 minutes until softened.

  2. Bring broth to a boil in a wide skillet or shallow pot.

  3. Stir in gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, and sugar until dissolved.

  4. Add rice cakes and fish cake (if using). Simmer 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the rice cakes are soft and the sauce has thickened and coats everything.

  5. Add green onions in the last minute. The sauce should be thick and glossy.

  6. Serve in bowls topped with sesame seeds, green onions, and a hard-boiled egg.

The Day 2 Evolution

Add cheese on top and broil for cheesy tteokbokki

Toss with ramen noodles for a carb-on-carb situation (rabokki)
